"Asher what?"
"Fritjof."
"How do you spell that?"
"F-R-I-T-J-O-F.  It's a family name.  Fritjof was Asher's great-grandfather.  He didn't like the name, so he went by Fred."
(that's how the conversation frequently went as he was introduced)
