popcorn in milk

"You can fill a glass full to the brim with milk, and fill another glass of the same size brim full of popcorn, and then you can put all the popcorn kernel by kernel into the milk, and the milk will not run over. You cannot do this with bread. Popcorn and milk are the only two things that will go into the same place."
- from "Farmer Boy" by Laura Ingalls Wilder (page 34)

Well, guess we better try it.

It works! Now the question is, who would have bothered to figure this out? Must have been someone without TV.

a couple new videos

I haven't posted videos in a while. Here's a couple things that went on in our house while homeschooling the last few days.

Isaac and Noah have been working on memorizing the books of the Bible. One day, to our surprise, when Isaac got a little stuck on one, Lydia jumped in with the next book. Since then, we've all been working on them together. Here's how far we've gone...

And, here's the obligatory rocket balloon experiment going through the middle of our living room...

Homeschooling in action

I just realized that the last three pictures happened to all be mess related, so to show that we aren't hopeless slobs, here's the three oldest quietly having school and practicing their penmenship skills (at least that's how it appears for the moment).

"Look how fast I can put the states together!"

This is from several months ago, but having just discovered HomeSchoolViewTube now we have a "decent" place to host videos. Enjoy!

Updates (MACHE, Micah, and the new house)

First, we have to brag... there was a very familiar face on the latest blog entry from the Maxwell family. They have a wonderful ministry which has been a huge blessing to us, and their blog is likely read by hundreds if not thousands of people. Well, we saw them this weekend at the MACHE conference in Duluth, and during a stop at their booth they snapped this picture of the cutest baby there (our very own Micah) and published it on their blog.

Micah is doing very well. He had a 2nd blood transfusion on April 3rd and as been off his bili/light bed since April 13th. He's really been catching up on the weight charts, and gets cuteness comments wherever we go.

We finally closed on our new house on April 11th. Now we're in the process of doing as many projects as we can before moving. This mostly includes fixing some things, painting, some new floors, etc. Our dads have been enormously helpful with all this.

Apple tasting

As part of a home school project, we got one of each kind of apple available at SuperTarget as a chance to notice the many differences. They turned out to have about a dozen different kinds of apples.

Oh, look at the time.

As part of homeschool kindergarten, Isaac made a sundial today with a lamp post and some sticks. (That upsidedown, backwards 5 is actually a 2, as this picture was taken about 3:00, and the really big stick is noon.)

Lesson #1

Here's Isaac's very first home-school lesson just after mom and dad attended their first MACHE conference this weekend. Posted by Picasa
